Can you Help Us ?

The volunteers who help Bill are from all ages & walks of life. Some travel from as far as Ballina, Casino, Goonengerry, Ewingsdale & all places in-between. They are a friendly, lively bunch who gain a great deal of pleasure from the time they spend with Bill & other volunteers. Many have formed lasting friendships & Bill responds well to the bright & positive atmosphere everyone provides. It is because of the dedication of Bill’s parents, Lindy & Jim, & this group of people that Bill is as fit & healthy as he is today.

Lesley Donaldson - One of Bills TeamLesley Donaldson

Hi, my name is Lesley Donaldson. I have been a volunteer on Bill's Team for 15 years.
I am married to Robert, have a daughter Leonie, son Wayne & we all work & find time for this challenge.

Myself & my daughter Leonie attended the 1st meeting at the Lismore RSL Club when Bill's family was looking for volunteers. When we first started working with young Bill we would go to St Vincent's Hospital. Over time as Bill has progressed he went home with that being a big goal, we still remained volunteers. We had no experience in this field but many hands make light work. I've met many people from all walks of life, ages & areas, shared jokes & many different conversations & had some outings with friends.

I've seen many come & go but still Bill is our biggest achiever. He has gained from this enormously with so much love & attention & help. Each & every one of the volunteers have contributed to his performance, through their hard work, dedication & efforts. I feel he is like a son to me & the Hawkins family's love is enormous.
We had been nominated & had the pleasure of winning both State & National Volunteer Awards in 2001 in the National Health & Medical Research Council Volunteer Awards.

I finish by saying come on & volunteer for just two hours each week, fortnight or whatever time you can spare. You will be rewarded by this special challenge.

Mrs Lesley Donaldson
