Can you Help Us ?

 

There is no doubt that without these exercises Bill’s quality of life would not be what it is today. Bill also enjoys hearing the chatter amongst the volunteers as it keeps him in touch with the outside world.

The exercises require that you are able to work alongside other people & to take direction from others. When you first start, the exercises will be unfamiliar to you. The volunteers that have more experience will guide you through. If there is something that you are not sure about please don’t be afraid to ask. Everyone was new & unsure at some stage & the existing volunteers are happy to assist you in any way they can.

Even though you are providing your time to something worthwhile, it is important that you recognise your limits. Don’t be afraid to say if you cannot come on a certain day or your life circumstances change & it affects your ability to volunteer. You & your family must have first priority. We are extremely flexible & if you’re not able to make it to your usual session, no problem, just call Sharon so she can arrange a replacement for you.
The exercises are not difficult & require only an ordinary level of fitness on your part. However some people find some types of the exercises harder than others. If you find this is the case for you then you need to respect your own physical capabilities. Let Sharon or others know so that adjustments can be made to accommodate this.

Most of all don’t forget to enjoy yourself. All the groups have plenty of time to get to know one another & everyone enjoys the time they spend together. It can take time to settle in with a new group but if you are feeling unsure or would like to try a different day, just let Sharon know. If you have any concerns or issues you wish to discuss you can contact Sharon anytime.

The Roster:

To maintain his ongoing well-being, Bill requires the exercise sessions on a daily basis. It takes 5 people each session for the exercises to be carried out effectively. If you are unable to make it to your usual session, please give Sharon a call so that she can arrange for another volunteer to fill your place. The exercise program runs for 2 hours, 6 days a week & volunteers come weekly, fortnightly or on an on-call basis. Times for these sessions are:

Monday to Friday 10.30am – 12.30pm
Saturdays alternate between 10am-12pm or 2pm-4pm
Bill’s address (where the sessions are held) is 532 Ballina Rd, Goonellabah
